5 Ways to Start Practising Mind-shift Techniques

By Adi Shri

“If you want to fly, give up what weighs you down.”
So, what is clutter?
It is a head trash, the junk kept up there, on the head.
Clutter is anything that does not support your better self.
“Mental clutter is simply delayed decisions.”

Mind shift 1 – Be present in the moment completely.
Ask yourself these 2 questions again and again in all the activities you do –
a. What I am doing now, is it important to me ?
b. Does it matter to me or someone I love ?
Even if one of the answers is no, you are not on track. You are doing something cluttering then.
“Slow is the new fast”. When your mind goes at a reasonable pace, it is most effective.

Mind shift 2 – Brain Dump at night.
Put in whatever in your mind at night on paper/digital and get sorted for tomorrow. Your priorities would be set. See the quality of work you produce.
Journalise to release your bottled emotions.
Holding thoughts in your mind is like trying to grasp water.
Stress, anxiety, frustration never come from reality. They come like story. So, edit your story. Write them all down and capture your thoughts.
If you are not good in writing, “bullet journal”. Carroll, the founder of bullet journal records his mind map, his desires, how is he spending his time – all in bullets.
Start your next day with the most important thing.
Take one task at one time.
Break down big tasks into small tasks and enjoy your journey.
And rock your day with “morning pages.”?

Mind shift 3 – Kill the FOMO (fear of missing out)
Separate knowledge attainment from mindless consumption. Limit empty consumption. It is not necessary to catch up with everything going viral.
Create “Block our time” from any gadget. Do not indulge even in reading that time.
A non-consuming
mind seeks new concepts. goes deep, comes up with breakthrough insights.
The brain gets super active when it gets to explore.
It creates.
And creativity is a muscle which needs to exercise.
In today’s insane world, do not compete; create.
Manoush’s “Bored and brilliant” makes so
much sense on this.?

Mind shift 4 – Zone out
Make a meal from scratch or play with your kids or garden or solve a puzzle or just colour or listen to music.
Exercise daily. Anything. Daily.
Deep breathe and observe your breath flowing. Keep a gratitude log.
Laugh like Santa. watch comedies.
You can focus so well after this.?

Mind shift 5 – Be minimalistic
Minimalism is a tool to get rid of life’s excesses to focus on what is important to find more happiness, fulfilment and freedom.”
Mind is stacked with thoughts like a computer. Free up the space.
Declutter your work desk.
If you are not using something for longtime from your closet or anywhere else, give it away.
Human minds tend to fill up empty spaces with furniture or decor or assumptions or conclusions or opinions.
Free all that up.
